Transportation Safety for Pets

Hi, my name is Julie, and here by my side is my faithful companion Frieda, my therapy dog. I love to travel and have spent a lot of time travelling, but unfortunately, a few years ago, my anxiety increased in a way that made it hard to travel. As a result, I got a therapy dog. Frieda has been a literal lifesaver for me, but I have had to learn how to travel with her. In particular, I have had to learn how to help her have a safe experience on different modes of transportation. This blog is devoted to that concept. Whether you are travelling with a working companion or a pet in a pet carrier, this blog has tips on making that experience safe.

Agricultural Warehousing: Practical Tips for Saving Money on Your Distribution Facility

by Noelle Frazier

Proper storage and management of your agricultural produce is critical for the success of your commercial operation. In simple terms, if the goods are stored correctly in a warehouse, you will ensure their safety and security. In addition, a good distribution centre will facilitate the efficient movement of goods in and out of the warehouse. Unfortunately, warehousing can be expensive. Here are some practical tips to help you reduce your total expenses.

Increase Cross-Docking Efficiency

You should ensure that your cross-docking practices are efficient to minimise delays and confusion which could translate into financial losses. Simply speaking, you should ensure that the inbound and outbound farm shipments are tightly managed and that the dock location remains free of unnecessary congestion and confusion. You can maximise the efficiency of your cross docks by installing conveyors. The conveyors will minimise the amount of movement around the dock while facilitating the efficient movement of goods around the distribution centre.

The use of forklifts and human labour can increase the difficulties of managing the docking location. You should also be more diligent in your housekeeping. If the movement of the transportation trucks, forklifts and people is obstructed by clutter, the efficiency of your work will be compromised. In addition, there will be a high risk of costly accidents occurring on your worksite. You should remember to organise your dock space for optimal flow of goods. You should configure the area to have inbound and outbound sections to avoid clashes.

Manage Internal Conditions

You should ensure that the storage conditions in your warehousing space are ideal for the storage of your agricultural produce. If the internal environment is not suitable, your goods will not be appropriately preserved, and the losses could be incomprehensible. You should be particularly keen on managing temperature and humidity. These factors contribute to spoilage if they are not constant and at optimal levels. For the best results, you should ensure that your warehouse is well ventilated. If possible, you should turn the entire space into a cool room by installing a reliable AC system.

Install Energy-Efficient Equipment

Your distribution facility will require multiple machines powered by electricity, including a climate-control system, weighing machines, conveyors and computing equipment. If the electrical consumption is not managed correctly, you will experience financial losses in the long term. You should avoid incurring these losses by choosing energy-efficient equipment. These machines will cost more during purchase. However, they will consume less power in your warehouse, allowing you to enjoy prolonged financial savings.
